The story of Lon Chaney well acted by James Cagney

An amazing film. Cagney does an amazing job with the role of Chaney and the depictions of Chaney's most famous costumes are incredibly true to the original form. I thought the choice of Robert Evans as Irving Thalberg to string the film together was an interesting, and incredibly true to life one if you don't research too much into Evans. :) One of my all-time favorite films.

James Cagney is wonderful as Silent film great Lon Chaney. Since this is a Hollywood biography, the film is a mix of fact and fiction. The scenes with Cagney in Chaney's makeup for some of his greatest films is a treat to watch. Soon to be Producer Robert Evans has a great part as Legendary Producer Irving Thalberg. A excellent film and a treat for film buffs.

Everyone bashes this film because of it's innaccuracy to the real life tory of Lon Chaney. Well, back when this film was made, no one really knew the finer details. In life, Lon kept to himself, and at the time this film was very accurate. It is well worth watching. James Cagney gives a stunningly cathartic performance as Chaney, and Jim Backus (Gilligan's island) co-stars. Thank God this film is finally on DVD. For so long ebay would sell it for $100 per disc, or the pirated copies were always bountiful. The picture quality could have been better, considering it came from Universal, but ll in all, this should not be missed.

one of cagney's best dramatic roles, he plays i a tad corny, but the overall affect is strong...this is robert evans first film...see this and the kid stays in the picture
