Having seen the film before I read the book, I have to say I love this film. Yes, the book is better, different, deeper, as books tend to be. Still, a great movie. Read the book after wards.

I really love this film. It was not released in 1989. It was actually late 60s. Ray Bradbury, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell have all tried to warn us about futurisitc police states where everyone is under close observation - and yet we get closer by the day in th UK. The most important thing about this story is the message. What does it mean to you? I value my freedom and the right to think for myself. I happen to think that Truffaut does a great job with this film. Not having a single written word, even the credits are spoken, is genius.

Francois Truffaut's only english language production shows a love of language and literature not seen in films today. A masterpiece!

others say this film is dated. i have to disagree. rather it it is a reflection of the era in which it was made. something that, for me, just adds to its charm and helps to makes its ominous vision of the future more believable. it stands up to repeated viewing and seems more enjoyable everytime. can't recommend it highly enough.
