When Sean Connery finished up his tenure as James Bond in 1974, he teamed up with "Excalibur" director John Boorman to make this epic flick. In the future, the rich and powerful have sequestered themselves in an idyllic city known as the Vortex. Meanwhile, the poor and ignorant are manipulated by a false God called Zardoz to make food and kill each other. Connery, one of these savages, sneaks into the Vortex and causes all sorts of chaos with his brutal ways and irresistable, swarthy sexuality. Zardoz is full of trippy effects, bizarre philosophy, and gratuitous nudity. There's so much to this movie, and it's even more bizarre than it sounds. Get your hands on a copy of this film, do all the drugs you can find, and watch it three times. You'll thank me later.

words cannot describe this movie, It is deep and thought provoking at times, and utterly ridiculous at others, the whole thing is... unique. Connery plays a braindead terminator in a red nappy, and smuggles his way into a community where nobody can die, and everyone wants to. The movie is bat-nuts insane, and definitely worth watching, though you may lose your sanity

John Boorman is under appreciated genius and this psychedelic scifi trip is just one example of his brilliance. I read somewhere, that this is where Tarkovski meets The Planet of the Apes. I agree.
