This is the best movie about Hollywood ever made! It remains as pertinent in the 30's (the time period it took place) and now. Donald Sutherland as Homer Simpson (DOH!) in one of his best performances is creepy. The last twenty minutes of this film will stay with you forever! It's a must see!

John (Midnight Cowboy) Schlesinger's version of Nathanael Hawthorne's powerful novel about Hollywood and its dreamers and losers in the 1930s is not always effective, but it's ambitious, daring, and very well acted.

From a brilliant novel of the unlucky writer Nathanael West. The action takes place in the hollywood babylon of the late 30's, following these odd charachters trying to make it. The result is quite dull, maybe because director John Schlesinger is not able to put the black humour of the book into the movie, and the whole rhytm goes down many times.

Pityless to its characters, some linking images act like daydreams and voice what the caracters are unable to voice themselve. And Karen Black nails it like she was born to play this role.

Good acting and good cinematography. A bit too disturbing for my taste, though. The ending is one of the traumatizing, terrifying things I have ever witnessed.
