Archie Lee Meighan is a failing cotton gin owner who is married to Baby Doll, a 19-year old childlike beauty whose father arranged the marriage for financial reasons. As Archie awaits the arrival of Baby Doll's 20th birthday, the day that they are supposed to consummate their marriage, he faces interference from business rival Silva Vacarro, who plots to seduce Baby Doll away from Meighan.

Baby Doll (1956) has been called notorious, salacious, revolting, dirty, steamy, lewd, suggestive, morally repellent and provocative.

Steamy. Wow. You never thought they could make a movie like this in the fifties. Dark and twisted and just so much fun to watch. A great surprise

Even though it's an original screenplay by Williams, it still feels like a play, with few locations and characters and several long dialogue scenes, that's not a complaint by any means though, like any Williams work, it isn't afraid to look at controversial issues and deals with how life was in the south back then, all 3 of the leads are very good in their roles, some scenes may go on a bit too long, and the whole climax scene i wasnt a huge fan of, but its still well done and written overall and i recommend it for fans of williams

50 years later, this once-controversial flick still sizzles even now. It is easy to see why the Catholic Church condemned it on its release. But beneath the infamy lies a well-acted tale of Southern immorality that still is enough to win an R rating today!
