Archie Lee Meighan is a failing cotton gin owner who is married to Baby Doll, a 19-year old childlike beauty whose father arranged the marriage for financial reasons. As Archie awaits the arrival of Baby Doll's 20th birthday, the day that they are supposed to consummate their marriage, he faces interference from business rival Silva Vacarro, who plots to seduce Baby Doll away from Meighan.

Histoire d'un gars qui a Ã©pousÃ© une gamine trop jeune et trop sexy pour lui. Ca le rend fou et Ã§a attire les convoitises. Tout Ã§a sur fond de crise sociale dans l'agriculture du coton. Ce qui devait Ãªtre trÃ¨s chaud en 1956 nous parrait trÃ¨s miÃ¨vre aujourd'hui. Les moeurs changent ... et les films vieillissent.

What a film! This is clearly an underrated masterpiece. Tennessee Williams masterful screenplay's about a teenage diva, set in the poor rural south, is as much a dark comedy, as it is a social statement. I believe the film was banned by the catholic church when it was released in 1956. It certainly is extremely sensual, but without an inch of skin on display. Watch this one NOW...

Elia Kazan is amazing. Recently saw this in a film class, but it is still great. The characters are southern stereotypes for sure. That is why it is good.
