I liked this one. It was kinda cheesey, but had a decent story. One of Poe's film adaptations. When a man becomes so obsessed with being buried alive, he begins building a crypt designed to guarantee that he will not fall prey to his most dreaded nightmare. He has to face losing his wife or fall victim to his own phobia. He falls in a catatonic state, and his nightmare now begins. Starring Ray Milland and Directed by Roger Corman.

A weaker Poe movie, where Ray Milland plays a man so afraid of being buried alive, he builds a special escapable crypt for himself - too bad his loved ones want him dead. It would've been weird and comedic to see Vincent Price in the role. Those scary grave diggers were neat-o, but didn't scare me much. I got tired of that song they kept whistling. The cinematography and set pieces were ghoulish, but the contrived happenings just weren't scary or interesting. Yup, much better to watch late at night alone.

Another in the seemingly-endless line of director Corman's Poe adaptations, this one feels unfortunately bland, as if Corman wasn't terribly inspired by the material. Still, for the production design and Milland's fabulous performance, I give the film a pass.

Do not waste 80 precious minutes with this harmless and pointless film, read Edgar Allan Poe instead! (20.10.2010)

I don't care if this is the one Corman adaptation of Poe that jacks Vincent Price. This is gothic horror, as good as it gets. Milland brings an elegance, charm and an aristocracy to a part that calls for it. From beginning to end, we get a compelling tale of paranoia, obsession and destiny. It's exactly what you'd expect of a story based off of Poe's work.
