I'll Cry Tomorrow (1955)

Deprived of a normal childhood by her ambitious mother, Lillian Roth becomes a star of Broadway and Hollywood before she is twenty. Shortly before her marriage to her childhood sweetheart, David Tredman, he dies and Lillian takes her first drink of many down the road of becoming an alcoholic.

Excellent acting by Hayward and an excellent telling of a story and the realness of alcoholism.

This film shows its age, but is still an interesting film about alcoholism from 1955. I've anyways loved Susan Hayward and I still do. She's excellent. Her performance is melodramatic but still has its moments. Jo Van Fleet is marvelous as her stage mother. Susan Hayward sings and is not dubbed. Lilian Roth was a consultant on the film which tells her story.

I saw it a couple of weeks ago on TCM, it was amazing, I couldn't stop crying, that lady was an alcoholic to the max and you just felt her pain.

1950's bio-pic about the rise and fall (and rise) of actress/singer Lillian Roth. A melodramatic take on alcoholism that rivals The Lost Weekend. Okay, there were a few moments when the sap was thick enough to draw flies, but overall one hell of a performance from the vivacious Miss H. A must-see for Susan Hayward fans of all ages.
