In WWII Western Germany, Private David Manning reluctantly leaves behind a mortally wounded fellow soldier and searches for survivors from his platoon, only to learn from commanding officer Captain Pritchett that they have all been killed in action. Despite requesting a discharge on the grounds of mental disability, Manning is promoted to sergeant and assigned to lead a new platoon of young inductees.

good plot, good performance from the cast. do not expect too much action as the film is more focus on the story telling.

Really underrated tv war film. I have a connection because it not only chronicles the battle my Grandpa fought in, but the protagonist reflects his demeanor exactly: sullen, bound by duty but reluctant even to his cause. Provides a different perspective to a conflict considered a unanimous effort.

What an excellent movie, well produced and acted. For me, Zac Orth, who plays a rookie combatant named Sanderson, is the best actor. He makes you feel Sandersons fear when, knowing that he will be almost certainly mowed down by Germans, he runs rampage with a flame thrower amongst them, screaming with false bravado. Many soldiers become heroes out of desperation and fear and the film portrays this fact very well. I regard this as one the best ever war movies. Spiderman fans should not watch this as there is too much reality.

Band of Brothers raised the bar for the genre, but this is a very solid, short war movie concentrating on an attempt to capture a bridge at Hurtgen Forest. Ron Eldard leads a squad very much against his wishes, showing a different picture to the brotherhood portrayed in BoB. His motivations are purely personal, colouring his leadership and courage. This is a low budget effort from '98, and the dialogue is stilted, but the action is intense and brutal, displaying the chaos and fear to great effect. Worth a look for sure, but don't expect the glitz of Hollywood.
