Audience scores are nearly spot on in their rating. I think it’s debatable to be anywhere from a 7.5 through a 9.0. I tend to score it higher due to the excellent performances from the whole cast and how consistently strong the tone held throughout. With a movie like this (that has frequent flashbacks) it can be extremely challenging to maintain the tone, but the editing team did a remarkable job in my opinion. The critic reviews though...waaaay off. I read through more than a few and most of the criticisms aren’t valid at all. But then again, I don’t think critic opinions carry a fraction of the weight that they used too. In all, if you found the trailer interesting this is an excellent watch.

An imperfect but good movie. It is worth your time. The negative reviews from critics are much more about the biases they brought than the movie they saw. The acting is incredible. For Amy Adams to play this role took a lot of courage because it is not a likable character. Yes, it is imperfect, the screen adaptation from the book is not very good but the story will resonate.

The only reason this movie has received bad ratings is because the critics can’t separate politics and Hollywood. Perhaps we should start rating the critics. This film is raw and real and tells the story of people — actual people, who have lives. Our lives aren’t always pretty, as portrayed so well by Glenn Close and Amy Adams. This movie allows us to see the hardships faced by so many. Sometimes, those hardships create pretty awesome results.

Once again critics have no idea what people actually like. Living in Eastern Kentucky I can relate to this movie and the message. Life is hard and it is NOT fair but there is a way out and the most important thing is family. Unbelievably great acting in this movie. Exactly like an Eastern Kentucky grandma.
