Although there is a political element to this movie, however, it works on a primal level – that of a person struggling to find not only a path forward but some kind of meaning in an act that lacks reason, compassion, or sense.

What Kruger does is remarkable — showing Katja paralyzed with grief, but doing so in a way that does not paralyze the story.

Thanks to chillingly spare storytelling, Kruger’s momentous performance, and a score by Josh Homme (the front man of Queens of the Stone Age) that features a sort of screechy clang that gave me shivers, In the Fade is gripping. But it’s hard to know what to take away from it.

1st Act: Emotion. This is the act were the toughest things happen. This is were Diane Kruger acts the freaking hell out of this movie. Not that she's bad after, but if you aren't convinced about her performance here, I don't know what to tell you. 2nd: Plot precision. There is plot since the start, of course, but here, there is alot of attention to detail, the story goes one way and settles the table for the third act. Is more than anything a plot driven part, with little character moments here and there, but is perfectly done. 3rd: Visual Symbolism.
