A highly effective piece of British propaganda from Ealing Studios made at a time when the outcome of the war hung in the balance. Incredibly violent for the time and still shocking by todays standards, where else other than John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 can you see a young child shot? Yes some of the acting is a little ropy but that probably has more to do with a quick turn around in production. If this isn't a highly praised piece of British film making, it should be.

A brutal film. Marvellous wartime filmmaking.

As an effective work of surreptitious World War II propaganda, "Went the Day Well" is instructive on many levels.

When viewed at in a historical context, this is a great thriller/action film. Surprisingly brutal for the era.
