Ealing War Time propaganda Movie. Leslie Banks was superb fifth columnist. Catch this restored new print at the BFI this July.

Everyone else here is pretty much spot on: it's a better and more realistic The Eagle Has Landed, it is shocking and chilling - and on top of all that it proves that Thora Hird was ugly even as a young woman.

A highly effective piece of British propaganda from Ealing Studios made at a time when the outcome of the war hung in the balance. Incredibly violent for the time and still shocking by todays standards, where else other than John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 can you see a young child shot? Yes some of the acting is a little ropy but that probably has more to do with a quick turn around in production. If this isn't a highly praised piece of British film making, it should be.

Still truly unnerving, one can only imagine how terrifying it must have been for audiences facing the very real threat of Nazi enslavement.

This is my favourite war film, and one of the most unnerving films I have ever seen. A propaganda film made at a time when invasion seemed imminent, it is chilling and yet also rather reassuring. The violence is at times, quite shocking, and yet very little of the violence is towards the British. A true classic.
