excellent beginning, excellent ending, but the film slows down in the middle....still, a good thriller with noir elements....Edward G. Robinson is terrific as always.

An old man and his sister conceal a terrible mystery from their adopted daughter, concerning a red house deep in the woods. The Red House is a thriller that closely boarders with the horror genre. Its intensity and unravelling mystery is quite absorbing, and Edward G. Robinson's performance adds great power to the mix.

Terrible quality sound and picture couldn't ruin a pretty great unknown film - I wonder if there's a good restored copy out there. It's a little slow at the beginning, but there's lots of good here. Robinson - in an excellent performance - plays a farmer trying to keep people out of the neighboring woods for mysterious reasons.

A peculiar thriller with some horror overtones. It conjures up a wholesome small town feel, complete with nosy neighbors and gossip, and an undercurrent that grows increasingly darker.
