Viridiana (1962)

Viridiana is preparing to start her life as a nun when she is sent, somewhat unwillingly, to visit her aging uncle, Don Jaime. He supports her; but the two have met only once. Jaime thinks Viridiana resembles his dead wife. Viridiana has secretly despised this man all her life and finds her worst fears proven when Jaime grows determined to seduce his pure niece. Viridiana becomes undone as her uncle upends the plans she had made to join the convent.

Spanish Surrealism in its purest form. Bunuel never lets up. A story of a fallen nun, well not really, whose life becames an orderly chaos - a jumble of humanity.

La pelicula de la cual probablemente Lars Von Trier se inspiro para realizar Dogville.

Phenomenal film By Bunuel. Hugely controversial and you can see why, bu it's also a masterpiece about faith and class.

I admired the film's unpredictability, but I confess it left me puzzled. It seems to suggest that no good deed goes unpunished, but is that really what am I meant to learn from it? Good will begets unanswered suffering, and malice is blind. It's a farce that isn't funny, but I'll never forget it.

Como todas las películas de Buñuel, Viridiana no está exenta de polémica. A pesar de ser filmada en España y representar a este país en Cannes, Viridiana fue censurada luego por el régimen franquista.
