Viridiana (1962)

Viridiana is preparing to start her life as a nun when she is sent, somewhat unwillingly, to visit her aging uncle, Don Jaime. He supports her; but the two have met only once. Jaime thinks Viridiana resembles his dead wife. Viridiana has secretly despised this man all her life and finds her worst fears proven when Jaime grows determined to seduce his pure niece. Viridiana becomes undone as her uncle upends the plans she had made to join the convent.

If it's anti-Christian, it's also anti-humanity -- because what it does is point out that doing the right thing doesn't always pay off. Indeed, if you trust people, as Virdiana does, they might just turn on you. This is a film that doesn't let anyone off the hook, regardless of what you believe.

This film is famous for it's recreation of The Last Supper but it's so much more than that. The way he makes his statements on charity,religion,and the human condition are unlike any I've seen.The dog under the carriage,the milking scene,and the all the sexuality. The sexuality bit is probably expected from BuÃ±uel especially if you've seen his short film(which you probably have) Un Chien Andalou. I don't view this as a attack on Christianity but just as the story of this one girl and her journey through her own life. The last scene is pretty perfect and oh so NOT subtle.
