Great acting, heavy themes in Old Hollywood classic.

After I got over the inital disappointment that this wasn't a comedy, I found myself drawn into this little bit of drama... I didn't even recognize Grace Kelly at first - certainly not her most glamorous part, but it was obviously effective enough to win her an Oscar. I was more impressed with William Holden's performance, personally. And I'm still a sucker for Bing Crosby, even if he beat his children... this was the first movie where I could actually see him drawing from that anger? or idea that he had to present a perfect picture to those on the outside of his family. Makes the idea that the "sweet-tongued Irishman" could manipulate with the best of them. In any case, an excellent movie.

still not sure how successful the film is, but it should be seen for grace kelly's performance alone.

See it for Grace Kelly. Two words: talented perfection.

I must say, this is fantastic! The title is misleading. Grace Kelly as a not-so-glam wife, Bing Crosby not singing. When I first heard about this the title turned me off right away. Who really wants to see a movie called The Country Girl? Yet, I forced myself to watch this because Grace Kelly recieved an award for it. I was blown away with this fabulous movie! Go ahead and watch!
