All time favorite. Have any of you ever had the urge to shout out "What are the 39 Steps?" in some assembly hall or at public officials? I have. Robert Donat is a hero and a gallant. Cheers.

By comparison with the sinister delicacy and urbane understatement of The Thirty-nine Steps, the best of our melodramas seem crude and brawling.

1 of Hitch's best. This film has been made so many times, but Hitchcock's version stands out far ahead of the rest

Excellent thriller with a nice touch of humour running through it. The first and by far the best of three (?) versions.

Early archetypal innocent man on the run thriller from Hitchcock. This is funny, romantic, classy and superbly directed. There is sparkling dialogue but a scene at a farmhouse table where no words are used and simple looks and gestures communicate so much epitomises the genius of Hitchcock.
