"Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Stupendous Story of Adventure and Romance"... nice subtitle, uh?! Excellent Arthur Conan Doyle story where amazing music compensates the silent dialogs (but the silent style is very charming here anyway). The opening with Franz Schubert's Symphony No.8 (Unfinished) sets the mood for the film. Also the Schubert Piano Trios help making it a wonderful experience (I could not recognize the other compositions - some help here? :-) Excellent special effects for that time period together with eccentric scientists, dinosaurs in the Tower Bridge (London), adventure, touching music, and some ethically challenging situations. A real classic. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting? Still here? Go!

Slightly better than all the other mysterious dinosaur island movies that have been made since. It's watchable, it has good special effects, and has a good beginning. Overall it's not bad.

A wonderful and seminal film in so many ways... The first feature length film based on dinosaurs, the first feature length use of stop-motion animation, based on one of the fundamental archetypes of antediluvian fiction, the pattern for every jungle adventure film - like "King Kong" (1933), "Tarzan the Ape Man" (1932) and "King Solomon's Mines" (1937) - that came after it, and a rousing silent film of retro-Victorian guys in pith helmets facing down Charles R. Knight dinosaurs in 3-D.

Obviously not the same level of technology as we use today, yet still such a wonderful vision brought to life in such a captivating way. One of my favourite silent movies. Definitely a classic!

The first time America has seen the hardcorness of stop motion animation. willis O'brien is a animation pioneer and harry O. hoyt has an awesome imagination. thank you for these memories.. my only gripe is its so before my time that its sometimes a little hard to watch.
