Contempt (1963)

Art film producer Jeremy Prokosch, unhappy with the work of his director, hires Fritz Lang (as himself) to direct an adaptation of The Odyssey, but when it seems that the legendary filmmaker is making a picture destined to bomb, he brings in a screenwriter to energise the script. The professional intersects with the personal when a rift develops between the writer and his wife.

loving the way, godard describes the miscommunication among her and her husband...not too much words, just the pics are telling it´s getting worse

Dang it. There must be something wrong with me, but I just cannot like a Godard film. I've seen his two supposed best films, and I just didn't like either. I found in Contempt, the same in Breathless, that the "art" was completely forced. It seemed as though Godard set out to make an artsy film and that is just sad. Anything he had to say about marriages, Americans, or the film industry just didn't come across as intelligent. Unfortunately, a great like Fritz Lang got sucked into this mess. I've heard somewhere that is the supreme satire, but I found it sort of weak as a satire. Here's hoping Alphaville will be a little more promising.

One of Jean-Luc Godard's best works, 1963's gorgeous 'Scope epic Contempt, is also one of the best films about film ever made, though at times it seems more like a cross between an Antonioni study and a standard Godard self-reflexiveness.

Godard's masterful statement on filmmaking. Brigitte Bardot is to die for. And that's the point. Fritz Lang also contributes. A brilliant approach to scoring with the help of Georges Delerue. Scorsese borrowed the music for Casino.

it's not contempt the end of love, but indifference, where did I hear that before?
