While The Godfather delivers certainty and a comforting dramatic resolution, Once Upon A Time In America delivers a profound kind of mystery. While Coppola's film delivers answers, Leone's asks questions. It lingers and plays on the mind; its meanings shift and change like a faded memory or a half-remembered dream.

The fully restored, 4 hour 11 minute "Director's Cut" of Once Upon A Time in America is the greatest gangster film ever made. In effect, it's a love letter to American gangster movies, with countless allusions to famous earlier films. The script, tje acting, the incredible score by Ennio Morricone, and the cinematography add up to a bona fide masterpiece. Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and many other directors have hailed it as one of the great films of all time. And it gets better with repeated viewings. Because of its complexity and manipulation of time, it is not possible to fully grasp it the first time.

I had never heard if this film until I saw it at Wal-Mart. I had no idea of its length until after I started watching it. I really like the authenticity of it - the setting, costumes, props, and pretty much everything. I'm very glad that I was able to add this film to my collection.

The great Sergio Leone again,....His last film,and it's a work of art,a masterpiece. One of the best gansters films ever done,with Robet De Niro and the whole cast just so amazing,top of their form. And the music,my god the music,sublime as always,a perfect compliment to the movie,to the actors. Powerful,violent,haunting,heartbreaking,....it got everything,even a sad love story. As glorious an epic as "Once upon a time in the West",this one too is an ode,an homage to a long-gone era. As Kenneth Turan wrote:"To see this film is to be swept away by the assurance and vitality of a great director making his final statement in a medium he adored." From the first half with the young kids actors,including a very young Jennifer Connelly,to the last frame of Robert DeNiro's smile,this film is incandescent,magnificent,so serenely beautiful,...a cinema miracle!!!!

The last masterpiece of Sergio Leone with Robert De Niro, James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern. It’s powerful and brilliant. A very masterpiece.
