probably my "actual" favorite film of them all. how ang lee and james schamus extracted this from the godawful, campy rick moody novel, i will never know -- but then, i sometimes think ang lee is an alien sent here just to toy with us all.

omg. i love this movie. really really. the characters are so brilliant, the situations and the relationships with all the problems are quite believable and smart and even unexpected. teenage sexualitu combined with adult boredom and also sexual dissatifaction, plus add one talented cast, i mean, look at the actors who are in this film, wow! this film has a sense of humour, but it's sad at the same time too. real people with real problems and one hell of an ice storm. top class suburbian angst.

Master class all around. Weaver steals the film and smolders with it as a chic-but-depressed suburban housewife. A must-see from the 90s.

The harshest indictment of bad behavior in the 70's i've ever seen, right down to the requisite collection of a pound of flesh. Flawless art direction. Those ice cube trays! PLUS...Comic books!
