I can't decide whether this is an interesting exploration of the themes of love and boundaries or whether it is just an excuse for lots of sexual shots and scenes. There is definitely a feeling that more is going on than is being portrayed, which is probably where the book outshines the movie. I may well read the book to see what was missing. Although quite tame in detail, it does seem to convey the sense of sexual control in O's life. Thought provoking.

I liked this classic erotic movie very much, soft and pretty it was. I never read the book though, maybe the book is better than the movie. I recommend this flick to both hetero and lesbian lovers!

The psychological element of the film is almost totally lacking, thanks to perfectly flat performances by virtually everyone in it.

Read the book 15 years ago and this film does it justice. The music does give it a bit of a 70's porn feel. For the subject matter, this is done very tastefully. Corinne Clery's acting is incredible in this film. Her facial expressions show O's complete yearning to belong to someone - to be loved. Her character is shown clearly in the growing and changing process of this new sexual world she has entered. The one thing you will need to watch this film: an Open Mind. Dont miss this classic.
