This movie might be too long and boring for people who want to see action and something exciting, but this is a very good story. I want to say that "a samurai movie" doesn't mean "an action movie". And I love this film because of the very few battle scene.

I actually enjoyed this more the Twilight Samurai, but perhaps because I saw this one first. It is a wonderful story about the separation of class in Feudal Japan, as well as the slow corrosion of the Samurai culture and the acceptance of the modern age. Really a wonderful film.

Superbly made, beautifuly paced fi I am majorly hooked on to Yojiro Yamada's realistic Samurai seris. Forget Tom Cruise. Think people. Shows the other side of the Bushido code - the crushing burden it places on people who are often not in a position to either understand (most were simple, fighting men and lived in remote, rural areas)or exercise control over their fates

The similarities to the love story in Twilight Samurai is there but the violent ending is awesome. Lovin this more than the Fujisawa's first film.
