Never seen such a heartbreaking story like this. I could feel Shinnojo's pain. Loved it and now my new favorite jap film, next to 'Hariki' and 'Rashomon'. Such an incredible story.

Very simple film about the traditions of a samurai and how he goes about defending his honor and pride even though he's handicapped. Very calm and intriguing music to go along with the plot.

It's hard to imagine fans of the saccharine-sweet boy-band SMAP flocking to this film just because of Kim-Tak, which is to his credit; he obviously has more to him than his forgettable singing voice or face. A slow-burning, more and more tense story, it can't compete with Tasogare Seibei, though of course it's a very similar story. I'm just glad Kimura didn't ruin it (after all, putting the lead singer of a boy-band in a chauvinistic tough-guy role doesn't sound like a recipe for success; imagine Justin Timberlake as the next James Bond).

Average Japanese Samuri movie.... you won't regret if you don't watch it....

Along side with Twilight Samurai, this is another favorite of mine. Although the plot is pretty predictable and the story is nothing special, the cast is what makes this flim shine through. Where the protagonist in TS is passive, LH is agressive which puts a differnt kind of sauce to the climax. Yamada Yoji never ceases to deliver great sword fighting scene and has surprised me with the portrayal of the REAL Zatoichi!
