Airport 1975 (1974)

When an in-flight collision incapacitates the pilots of an airplane bound for Los Angeles, stewardess Nancy Pryor is forced to take over the controls. From the ground, her boyfriend Alan Murdock, a retired test pilot, tries to talk her through piloting and landing the 747 aircraft. Worse yet, the anxious passengers — among which are a noisy nun and a cranky man — are aggravating the already tense atmosphere.

It's your typical 70s disaster film, but just look at all the Hollywood legends. Charlton Heston, Myrna Loy, and the great Gloria Swanson as herself.

Have to admit that I too found this movie quite funny, probably more so than it should have been, especially Karen Black learning that she needs to fly the plane. Also George Kennedy trying not to beat up Larry Storch. Classic! The movie turned out to be much more entertaining than I was expecting, not the classic that the first 'Airport' is, but quite watchable in its own right.

It won't win originality points, because it is the same film as its predecessor with a few new perils tacked on. Instead, this disaster/suspense film about yet another airplane in great danger is more full of cliches than it is of excitement. Its best quality lies in the aftermath of satires which it sparked (from "Airplane" to "Snakes on a Plane").
