This stunning final entry of the original crew brings back Nicholas Meyer, director of Wrath of Khan, and creates a fast-paced mystery echoing the Cold War. Meyer brings a a dignity back to the series after athe abysmal Final Frontier, thanks in part to the incredible supporting cast of classically trained actors like Christopher Plummer (giving Montalban a run for best Trek villain). Also, my love for Shakespeare began with Star Trek VI. The constant references, allusions, and quotes ("You haven't experienced Shakespeare until you've heard it in the original Klingon") elevate this film to something grand and epic.

A wonderful cold war allegory with a breathlessly literate and spot-on script, the finest acting from the TOS ensemble (particularly Shatner's subtle turn), and an excellent, somber tone. The soundtrack is amazing as well. The moodiest, most cerebral, and most mature "Star Trek" film.

Between a great, symbolic, history-latent story, and outstanding special effects, brought together with two wondeful character studies in Kirk and Spock, "Star Trek VI" is a welcomed return to form. The old magic is back, and at it's best since the second film, "The Wrath of Khan". With a strong mystery plot on one hand, and Trek's prison break tale on the other, not to mention David Warner and Christopher Plummer at the finest, "The Undiscovered Country" is a jewel in the history of the franchise, and a high-water mark for Science Fiction in cinema. A fitting, powerful end to the Classic Series cast, "Star Trek VI" boldy goes all the way to greatness.

A great movie with a dark tone of conspiracy and a plot that parallels the Soviet/American Peace talks that took place in light of Chernobyl, with the whole exploding Klingon moon and Federation offers of peace as Mr. Spock says at one part "Only Nixon could go to China" this is somewhat poignant in light of Kirk's past with the Klingons (specifically Star Trek III and his son's death) and helps lend the film a real dramatic edge as Kirk fights for peace and must overcome his almost natural racist revulsion of Klingons and learn to trust them and help work for peace, as he and his crew pass the cause to a new generation of Starfleet officers. Well-known actors such as Chris Plummer, David Warner, Christian Slater, Brock Peters, and Kim Catrall show up in supporting and cameo roles and help give the drama and acting a good cast of supporting players.
