The first time I saw this, it was on VHS. I thought is slow and confusing. Then I saw it remastered on bluray and was like, OMG THIS IS SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful, just F*cking gorgeous. To say this movie is boring is like saying the Mona Lisa is boring. This is the 2001: A Space Odyssey of Star Trek.

Not the best film in the "Star Trek" franchise, but well worth watching--especially the 2000 Director's Cut, which includes deleted scenes, better editing, and additional footage with improved special effects. The recent DVD release of the Director's Cut is especially impressive in widescreen format with digital enhancement. Warp Speed, Mister Sulu!

The best Star Trek movie ever made, thoughtful, humanist, introspective. An internal puzzle to be solved rather than an external enemy to be fought. A battle of wits instead of a battle with fists. A perfect realization of Roddenberry's vision.

This movie gets a bad rap for it's slow deliberate pace and thoughtful buildup, a change from most episodes of the show, but Star Trek TMP is a solid Sci-Fi movie in it's own right with more of a thinking persons storyline rather than the out and out bravado of later movies. The special edition is great and an improvement over some of the dated FX though the additions were done to fit in with the style of the time. There's virtually no action in this movie at all and while that bothered a lot of people that wanted the Space Western kind of thrills that the series pitched I thought it added a certain nuance to the Trek universe that was seldom seen before.... Still a great movie by todays standards though in it's original form I'm sure it probably looks horribly dated.
