Cracking movie, was in awe when I saw the Enterprise on the big screen, it gets some stick but to sit for 20 mins watching Kirk being taken over to see his beloved ship again for the first time since refit was a joy. Great score also.

I have a fondness for this Star Trek film. Visually, it fills the screen.. Half the time, you don't care there is little to no story.

Star Trek The Motion Picture works so surprisingly well as an experience piece yet still leaves enough room for smart writing and plot.

People slam it because it's real cerebral sci fi. Very much in the vein of Asimov and Bradbury. Unlike the new Star Trek reboot, which is just generic Hollywood action. Not really interesting to real fans of the concept.

A good story hidden somewhere in long winded, drawn out establishing shots. You could cut out thirty/fourty minutes of this film and would have been a much better film. Not the best stepping stone from TV to film with this one.
