Fun Powell and Pressburger tale of young woman travelling to Mull to marry for money. But things don't go quite to plan. I love the noisy telephone box, the ceilidh and the Coryvreckan whirlpool. The school of Magical Scottish but not to twee.

An idyllic post-war movie that is part of a movement by British filmmakers to return to the basic simpler things in life. Fairly stock story, but it looks great and is a fascinating document of the times.

Wendy Hiller is excellent in this beautiful story of a woman who knows exactly what she wants ... until she can't get it. Although more than 60 years old, the film still feels fresh and poignant, with a healthy sense of humor.

Almost a British attempt at a screwball comedy (notice the opening scene after the credits in a glossy, chromium nightclub) with some great characters and some wonderful insights into rural Britain during the war. Anti-capitalist, naturally, but what the hell.
