Sweet Smell of Success (1957)

New York City newspaper writer J.J. Hunsecker holds considerable sway over public opinion with his Broadway column, but one thing that he can't control is his younger sister, Susan, who is in a relationship with aspiring jazz guitarist Steve Dallas. Hunsecker strongly disapproves of the romance and recruits publicist Sidney Falco to find a way to split the couple, no matter how ruthless the method.

Yeah saw this for the second time tonight. Forgot how in love with it i am. Top 10 Scripts ever written. No contest. Such a sleazy movie with unlikeable but engrossing characters. Burt Lancaster plays one of the great movie villains and his incestual relationship with his sister is all the more creepy for its subtlety. Love love the score so much and it really contributes to the film's atmosphere. One of my all time favorites.

Excellent film-noir without guns, reminded me of Night and the City with its quick pace largely dialog-based conflict. Also, pretty clear commentary on McCarthyism.

Probably the best script in movie history. Just poisonous. It's honest and dark and brillant. And funny, deliciously darkly funny.

Burt Lancaster y Tony Curtis ofrecen unas interpretaciones devastadoras en este negro relato sobre la codicia y el deseo.

"I love this Dirty Town" What an unsung gem this really is because this a masterpiece of the highest sort. Majestic photography combined with Bernsteins sassy jazz soundtrack act as a wonderful base for one of the most fascinating and distorted images of New York City i have ever seen. Lancaster and Curtis are heavyweights and their chilling tactics make a latter day pairing such as Douglas and Sheen in Wall Street look like Sutty and Sweep. Received no oscar nods for its time, which is shambolic! (5 stars)
