Fantastic. Considering when it was made (1940), incredible.

In this most lavish production the carefully planned colour scheme and the skillful use of the camera make the film one of the most satisfactory colour films yet created.

7.9/10 I watched this not expecting much and it turned out to be such a fun fantasy film! Full of great effects, interesting characters, and a lot more blood and violence than you'd expect from a U.

A fantastic piece of cinema but clearly dominated by the prejudices of the day. They couldn't stand to have the lead character not be white so they split him into two, the thief and the prince. The characters were a little shallow but this is also the function of the storytelling of the time this film was made. It's still quite a wonderful achievement.
