Dazzling special effects and performances by Sabu as the title character and Conrad Veidt as the wicked Grand Vizier Jaffar highlight this classic fairy tale. As equally thrilling as The Wizard of Oz and the later Disney picture Aladdin, which took most of it's inspiration directly from this tale based on a 1920s novel that is based on the collected Arabian Nights tales. It's an awesome movie. 10/10

Enchanting Arabian fantasy, a loose re-working of a Douglas Fairbanks silent in 1924, put together here as a slightly rambling adventure with romantic and mythical asides. The rhythm, music, elaborate trick work and performances are sustained magically throughout, making it an endlessly enjoyable yarn which frequently belies its age.

Fascinating special effects, for its time, makes this an entertaining take on the Arabian Nights tale.

Lavish fantasy covered in Arabian magic. The scenes with the Genie and magic carpet were an absolute joy.

It's hard to believe that this movie was made in 1940, the special effects are pretty dern good.
