Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)

King Arthur, accompanied by his squire, recruits his Knights of the Round Table, including Sir Bedevere the Wise, Sir Lancelot the Brave, Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot and Sir Galahad the Pure. On the way, Arthur battles the Black Knight who, despite having had all his limbs chopped off, insists he can still fight. They reach Camelot, but Arthur decides not to enter, as "it is a silly place".

Hilarious and one of the greatest comedies ever made, I cannot express my enjoyment for this film anymore than that comment. I find it very hard to believe a comedy troup like Monty Python are so hard to copy but very few have come close to the originality of this film project. This is a bona fide cult classic that only grows with age, it is just a smart and ridiculous concept from beginning to end. I caught this on Netflix so paying that monthly service has films of this high quality and it would pay for people to watch these to ensure younger audiences experience such a classic film. This is how sketch comedy films should be made, having the overall arc provides the backbone to launch into anything they want. Life of Brian will be next week but I'm already eager to catch that classic as well. People will argue that Life of Brian is superior but they are both equal and brilliant in their own way. 01/11/2018.

England, 932 AD. King Arthur and his loyal squire Patsy are travelling across the land, recruiting knights for Arthur's Round Table. Ultimately, however, King Arthur is on an even more important quest - finding the Holy Grail. To find it he and his knights will have to pit their wits and strength against all manner of foe, including the Black Knight, the Knights who say Ni, the Rabbit of Caerbannog, the Legendary Black Beast of Aaargh, The Bridge-keeper of the Bridge of Death, and some pesky, trash-talking French soldiers who seem to thwart them at every turn. One of the funniest movies ever made (if not THE funniest). Hilariously over-the-top and inane, and the perfect example of the sheer creativity, unconstrained thinking and left-field mentality of Monty Python. Some scenes just have to be seen to be believed, they are so out there. Not just physical humour, the dialogue is brilliant too. Just about every line is eminently quotable. It also includes the most bizarre and original ending to a movie you'll ever see. A true comedy classic.

A halairious classic, King Arthur and his Knights are on a quest for the Holy Grail, find themselves in funny situations as they move on, such as the French Guards, the Black Knight, the Castle Antherax, the Knights who say Ni, and the Bridge of Death.

If someone didn't know anything by Monty Python (as if that's possible), this would be the first thing you'd recommend. It's the comedy troupe at its absolute best, and their most accessible work, generating laughs from the most unexpected of people.
