Man I love musicals who cares if the whole movie was 5 hours long . The music was outstanding and the cast did a nice job singing. It's like if was a crapy day outside like rain , thunderstorms, snow or just plane cold out you can be be curled up in a nice blanket in your pjs with popcorn enjoying the movie and music.

This is Jesus who decided to take a sub-par Rodgers and Hammerstein Musical and smusch it with the fantastic cinematography of Robert Wise and delete unneeded song intros to make a spectacle of the final Golden Days of Europe.

Timeless classic - of the wholesome family classic genre, Definitely a great career move for Julie Andrews! In hindsight, however, I would tweak a couple of things: (1) When paterfamilias Von Trapp ditches the Baroness for Maria, one woman's bliss = another woman's trauma and tragedy. This is supposed to be a happy film. So something should be down to solve the problem. Enter Max - certainly a charming man, who would fit well into the aristocracy. Without distracting from the essence of the story, pair him off with the baroness. (2) There is not enough time near the end of the story - between the time when the von Trapps leave the stage to the giving of awards for 3rd and 2nd place - for them to initiate a getaway. So when Max is giving these awards, some kind of improv interviewing of the winners to buy some time would have been better.

Some movies you just hate for them being so popular, overblown, overexposed. As much as I had preconceived notions about "The Sound Of Music", and thinking I would not get a whole lot out of it, watching it with no prejudice recently in full for the first time made me realize that I missed out on a wonderful movie. It's incredibly photographed and directed by Robert Wise, masterful music by Rodgers and Hammerstein, and great lead performances by Andrews and Plummer. I guess we have to skip over the inconsistencies from the true story and the fiction version, including the English speaking Austrians and Germans, but as the real family of Maria Von Trapp have said, it's just a movie. An interpretation for cinema. And it was all worth it. An example of what the musical movies are all about.
