In the summer of 1863, General Robert E. Lee leads the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia into Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with the goal of marching through to Washington, D.C. The Union Army of the Potomac, under the command of General George G. Meade, forms a defensive position to confront the rebel forces in what will prove to be the decisive battle of the American Civil War.

Very realistic and touching movie. And the North winning is always a plus. So much false facial hair. One of the two best Civil War movies along with Glory.

Only negative thing about it is the length of the movie. Granted it is long, but there truly could not be a more acurately portrayed version of one of our most important battles in US military history. A 3 day battle summed up in a 4 hour movie with great acting? I'll take it.

Absolutely fantastic. About as close to Michael Shaara's book "The Killer Angels" as any production could have been. Excellent research into costuming, mannerisms, and just making the general feel of the movie seem authentic. Great weaving of individual stories into a complete whole.
