The Sound of Music Live! is a television special that was originally broadcast by NBC on December 5, 2013. Produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the special was an adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Broadway musical The Sound of Music, starring country singer Carrie Underwood as Maria von Trapp, performed and televised live from Grumman Studios in Bethpage, New York. Meron felt that if the telecast were successful, the concept could become "another kind of entertainment that can exist on TV." By her request, Underwood's casting as Maria was personally endorsed by Julie Andrews, who starred in the 1965 film.

This was a good attempt. You could tell Carrie Underwood struggled a little but still enjoyable.

While the acting is sub-par and mediocre, the delightful set pieces and musical talents of Carrie Underwood make up from it being lackluster and overly cheesy.

"The Sound of Music Live!" isn't "The Sound of Music". It's not even close. Not to offend NBC, but they CLEARY have no idea what made "The Sound of Music" a classic. Carrie Underwood needs to shut her vontrapp.

I loved it! Carrie did really well for her first major acting gig! It was live too haters- so remember they could not reshoot weaker scenes. The singing was outstanding! Loved it!

Carrie Underwood's performance is very wooden and she and Stephen Moyer have no chemistry.
