A PRETENTIOUS PIECE OF ARTSY FARTSY CRAP. THERE ARE SOME GOOD IMAGES, BUT THE STORY IS JUST PLAIN STUPID. THE EDITING, AND ESPECIALLY THE DIRECTION TOTALLY SUCK. GARBAGE WITH THE DIRECTOR PRETENDING IT'S ART. YUK.

Much of the film is a nearly wordless tone poem that sustains an intense emotional gravity and sexual tension through its mixture of music, beautiful outdoor cinematography and somber, silent acting.

This is a beautiful movie that really shows how the director, Mike Figgis, had a start in Avant Garde theater. Everything is perfect from the lush colorful cinematography to the sound design.

It had practicly no publicity where I live so it was SHOCKINGLY good. At one point it tears you apart. Incredible.

This plot-free film plays like a stream of dreams. The downside is that it also feels like a film-school experiment driven by Calvin Klein ad aesthetics. The core story is about a filmmaker who has lost much more than the film's provocative title suggests. Scenes in which a curious child evolves to a jaded adult are also intercut with a modern version of Adam and Eve in which a black man and white woman emerge from a small lake. There's enough philosophical and cinematic doodling here for several films.
