Todd Haynes+Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid in a way that'll surprise "Any Given Sunday" fans.

Todd Haynes loves tearing apart the language of movies and it shows in this well referenced, provocative and beautiful retelling of the melodrama.

Visually stimulating. Emotionally tragic. A hearbreaking film, not to be missed. heartrending performance from Julianne Moore. She was outstanding in 'THE HOURS', but I do think this is one of her best roles and she adapted Effortlessly in to the 1957 era. Fascinating movie.

A stunning achievement. I was completely blown away when I saw it. It's one of the only movies that imitate a particular style and do it completely successfully. The acting and style of these 50's "women's pictures" are hard to relate to today and a modern movie imitating it can easily fall into style over substance. But this movie is surprisingly emotionally engaging and true, mostly due to the fact that everyone involved took it very seriously, from the assured direction of Todd Haynes, brilliant performances by ensemble, and wonderful achievements by cinematographer Ed Lachman and the last score composed by Elmer Bernstein. Please go check out this great movie that was one of the best of 2002.

I don't know who Douglas Sirk is or was so I cannot say this was a great homage. All I can say its a spellbinding, heartrending story of a woman trapped in the social suffocation of the American 50's and deserves alot more recognition than it has.
