"You are who you choose to be." When the Iron Giant gets angry, hell breaks loose. YOU KNOW, FOR KIDS!But seriously, Brad Bird's directorial debut is a clever and heartwarming movie about being human, while taking place in a 1950s Cold War era, subtly implementing the paranoia of nuclear attacks. This allows a wider target audience range to enjoy the multiple mature themes that this movie offers. There's also plenty of humor to go about, which Brad Bird would carry over throughout his future work. While the cast may seem average, their voice acting was solid and worked well thanks to great scriptwriting. Even up to today's standards, the animation is phenomenal, allowing for plenty of attention to detail; there really isn't a drop of laziness to be seen. The musical score is pitch-perfect, matching the editing and pacing of the movie. Brad Bird deserves more praise for this movie. Few people are able to blend such mature topics within a movie for kids. Watch The Iron Giant A.S.A.P.

I had seen this before and forgotten about it until I stumbled upon it in a 5 dollar bin. This movie is great, well acted and directed, the cartooning is excellent the characters believable and it is just a fun film. Haven't seen it available in BR but will be looking to pick up that version and hand the dvd down to the kids for their collections.

Sin duda una de las mejores películas de animación 2D de la historia. Bird dirige una cinta excelente que se convierte en un icono de la cultura popular. Increíble animación, paleta de colores y personajes. El Gigante de Hierro es tierna, emotiva, emocionante y divertida a partes iguales; redonda en su ejecución, con una ambientación histórica más que arriesgada e interesante. Sin duda un mensaje de paz y amistad que ha perdurado en los corazones de los espectadores por casi 20 años. Imprescindible.

I love this movie and it just seems to stand out against other animated films

From director Brad Bird (The Incredibles and Mission Impossible 4) comes my favorite animated film outside of the Disney universe. The Iron Giant is a very touching film about a 50's boy named Hogarth Hughes who makes the discovery of a lifetime, a robot from outer space! The chemistry between the two is magical and the story is well constructed. The Iron Giant is a film for the ages that will always have a place in my heart as one of the 90's best films.
