It is a beautiful side, an unknown side of one of the biggest russian writers ever - Lev Tolstoy. His main idea about Life being directed by LOVE is well emphasized and well shown. Enjoy watching the purity of LOVE in 19th century.

We met James McAvoy earlier this year on the West End in London and he was just a lovely, lovely guy...hope he's included in awards season along with the rest of the heavyweights in the cast!

Just watched a masterclass in acting. From Mirren/Plummer to McAvoy/Condon, add a touch of Giamatti...terrific work throughout.

Powerfully affecting drama of Tolstoy's last days. I wept. Helen Mirren as Tolstoy's volatile wife, proves once again she's about the best actress on earth, my heart nearly broke for her character. Plummer's good, McAvoy's very good, and newcomer to me Kerry Condon also very good. For my German friends, the scenes on Tolstoy's estate were actually shot in Saxony-Anhalt, where Patrushka's mother originated.
