Alone in a remote wilderness, he must now ensure his family's survival from their relentless attacks.

Good on atmosphere, but that's about it. A couple with a baby live in the deep dark woods for the purpose of working in the forest. However, the forest has a dark side. No matter how much they witness or are warned, the character of the stubborn husband never does what's right. Where this usually leads to edge of the seat scares, or pleas of "Don't go there!," the annoyance of the character simply makes you think he's too much of an idiot to have a family or any important job in science.

Corin Hardy makes a slick, confident debut with supernatural horror The Hallow. Demonstrating a facility with storytelling almost as skilful as his nimble orchestration of animatronics and visual effects.

Its better than awful, as a young urban couple relocate to the country. Now if only they would listen to their neighbors warnings about the critters that live in the woods, but noooo. And that's what pisses me off about these films, characters doing just what they're not supposed to do, and doing it over and over, until they get got. I get tired of mentally yelling at the screen "don't do it!!!" and yet they do it anyway. Must that be the crutch all these films hobble on? Can't there be a horror wherein everyone does the right thing and THEN gets got? Now that would be something different.

Much better than the average garbage horror on Netflix.

The directorial debut of visual artist Corin Hardy is never less than arresting to the eye, but thin characters and a familiar story hold this Irish chiller back from entering the top tier of recent horror entries.
