Many years ago, my ex-boss who was distributing this film in the US, passed me the tape and said: "Watch this". I was hooked from the first frame to the last. Zhou Xun proves she's a powerhouse when given meaty roles, and Lou Ye a filmmaker who handles his scenes and transitions well, albeit with less doses in his latter 2 films.

Beautifully made. The story itself is extremely fascinating! I would say it's way more interesting than Summer palace.

Es dificil descifrar lo que esta pelicula me hzo sentir. Sin duda me recordo las emocione incompletas o fragmentadas que generan las peliculas de WKW. Esas atmosferas densas en las que los personajes se pierden y se vuelven victimas de sus deseos, sus obsesiones... sus fantasmas. Rio Suzhou es una pelicula de amor que trata sobre el remordimiento. Una opcion muy recomendable si quieres suspirar y ver un desenlace triste.

A beautiful film, and a remake of Vertigo that improves on the original. A love song to films and dreams that isn't cheesy. A modern classic, brooding, distant yet heartfelt.
