With his beloved chocolate business turning sour, socially awkward boss Jean-René decides to enlist an extra pair of hands. Enter Angélique, a chronically shy young woman who shares Jean- René's passion for all things sugar and sweet. She is the answer to his prayers, in ways he didn t realise. Because while he is looking for a sales rep to keep his sinking ship afloat, she is in fact a gifted, albeit covert, chocolatière extraordinaire whose treats are legendary around town. As the pair become more and more acquainted it is not long before chocolate is not the only sensual element in the air.

Bonne surprise que cette romcom assez originale. Poelvoorde est absolument parfait et confirme son talent dans ce registre de jeu minimaliste.

"Les emotifs anonymes" is a delicate movie, in a way that only French cinema is able to do. The world the director creates seems magic: the little French village, the old chocolate factory, the goofy and shy protagonists. Nevertheless, as the movie goes on, the magic is quickly lost, due to a poorly developed script. The main (and best) idea of the movie, the chocolate story, looses its fundamental role in favor of the love story of the two protagonists, which ironically has no appeal without the chocolate side. Even the poor 80 minutes of the movie are an evidence of the lack of development of the script -seems like the director had a brilliant idea... and then left it stagnate for a bit more than one hour. The movie reaches sufficiency only thanks to the main actors who give a brilliant interpretation of their characters and are the only factor that keeps the movie going.

This movie had me at the mention of chocolate in its summary. Though sadly there wasn't much of me watching chocolate being made in slow motion, I loved the quirkiness of both characters falling in love. A delightful storyline of two social misfits falling in love is always enjoyable.

Les Émotifs Anonymes is a wonderful film: very Fench and truly touching and genuinely funny, with just the right amount of romance versus life and love and chocolate.This is a film I can warmly recommend as one of the best French romantic comedies of recent memories - it has touches of Amélie and will appeal to a wide audience - it beautifully shot and lit, and all in all, the script is witty, the situations are funny without being ludicrous or cringeworthy, and above all, this is a charming and truly romantic film, without saccharine, but definitely, with a bitter sweetness of its own.
