Lust for Life (1956)

An intense and imaginative artist, revered Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh possesses undeniable talent, but he is plagued by mental problems and frustrations with failure. Supported by his brother, Theo, the tormented Van Gogh eventually leaves Holland for France, where he meets volatile fellow painter Paul Gauguin and struggles to find greater inspiration.

One of the best films about Van Gogh I have seen. Kirk Douglas gives one of his best performances expressing the passion, agony and tragic beauty in his life.

I recommend this to all people who live for art. While I am more into Heavy Metal than art, I thought this movie was good to the point where I could say, "okay, this is too good to be real"! This movie was extremely good and should be watched by many people! Kirk Douglas' portrayal of Van Gogh was insanely accurate!

"Nothing will ever truly be appreciated until death... that sums up Van Gough's life work! Lust for life is uncandid and beautifully adapted from: Irving stones best selling novel of the same title." Never would i have thought to cast Kirk Douglas as Van gough, not surprising his portryal is almost to close for comfort as he literally takes on Gough's habitual personality. The accuracy is phanominal with each scene set in the actual location of Holland and France.

I think Kirk Douglas was perfect for the role of Mr. Van Gogh. From the beginning you can feel Van Gogh's passion for life and art and his emotional ups and downs. I really recommend it to fans of the amazing painter.
