Ultimately underwhelming, this film wasn't as 'extreme' as one might be led to believe. Very interesting concept and a pretty cool use of flashbacks to reveal little plot details, but something feels a bit lacking in the execution and pay off. The ponderous pace doesn't quite work as well as Denis probably wanted it to.

very intense art house cannibal/vampire crossover cult masterpiece.i wish people would not go on about how shocking the blood-letting is...i love peoples reaction to it so peaceful then so utterly gross that its a shame to spoil the fun.soundtrack camera work and acting are all top notch. forget saw and hostel...this is horror !!!!

I can see how Denis was trying to get us to empathise with the killer instead of the victim, but I just found the movie extremely slow. Perhaps it's because I haven't seen enough of Denis' work to appreciate it, but I remain underwhelmed for the time being.
