Intriguing emphasis on the relationship between Olive and Verena, but only James enthusiasts could enjoy it, and even they may be put off by the allusions to lesbianism.

Boring and blandly shot. Good performance from Vanessa Redgrave and a good does of lesbianism.

good stuff another great period piece from merchant/ivory

Except for Redgrave, who is great as always, this is a badly miscast but handsome adaptation of classic novel. The ending is a cop-out.

Jay Scott 09 May 2007

Ruth Prawer Jhabvala's screenplay is less a response to its source than a careful college outline of it.
