La Strada (1954)

When Gelsomina, a naïve young woman, is purchased from her impoverished mother by brutish circus strongman Zampanò to be his wife and partner, she loyally endures her husband's coldness and abuse as they travel the Italian countryside performing together. Soon Zampanò must deal with his jealousy and conflicted feelings about Gelsomina when she finds a kindred spirit in Il Matto, the carefree circus fool, and contemplates leaving Zampanò.

Watch it and you cant help falling in love with Fellini.

I could populate my entire top ten with Fellini films. Maybe this is his best, despite my always having been obsessed with "La Dolce Vita." Thanks to the brilliant performance of Giulietta Masina, this is still one of the most devastating film portraits of an abused woman.

A beautiful film. Masina shows so much facial acting in this film it's almost like watching a silent film. The entire film is beautifully shot, and again, another commentary on humanity (Do we all have a purpose?) that succeeds on every level.

Hands down, one of the most beautful films I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Fellini is a master craftsman when it comes to film and this movie proves it. Guilietta Masina is fantastic in the film and allows us all to view the world with childlike wonder, no matter how bad it seems.
