African-American Philadelphia police detective Virgil Tibbs is arrested on suspicion of murder by Bill Gillespie, the racist police chief of tiny Sparta, Mississippi. After Tibbs proves not only his own innocence but that of another man, he joins forces with Gillespie to track down the real killer. Their investigation takes them through every social level of the town, with Tibbs making enemies as well as unlikely friends as he hunts for the truth.

Great movie, but if I had to pick only one Sidney Poitier film from 1967, I would probably chose "Guess Who's Coming to dinner."

This is one of my all time fav movies. First time I saw this I was I think 6 or 7 and I couldn't understand why they were treating "Mr Tibbs" like that. Unfortanatly I came to understand and I love how he handles it all with grace and dignity and how he teaches the Police Chief a little something. I still jump for joy when he slaps back the "white man". One of the best movies ever made.

Ok, yes he is one of my favourite actors but the film is absolutely brilliant, one of many Racial films I've watched and enjoyed watching it. Brilliant performance by Sidney, he plays a cop and doesn't take any shit!!! Yet again discrimination at its best
