No Country for Old Men is an art film disguised as a suspense film that could give Psycho a run for its money. The beauty that the Coen Brothers weave into this script is mind-boggling and is trumped by few. The amount of symbolism is also trumped by few, if any. Javier Bardem is paralyzing, instantly creating a villain that is instantly branded into cinema history.

This is an arguably perfect depiction of the modern western. The Coen brothers, the superb cast, and the unmatched Roger Deakins each do their part in creating the best film of the year.

The crowning achievement of Coen Brothers. The slow pacing and the angst that is delivered through multiple scenes keeps you on your toes for the entire duration of the movie. Simply breathtaking.

Cormac McCarthy (who authored the novel that the film is based upon) seems to really romanticize the "old world." An obvious lover of the wild west, his stories all seem to focus on how fucked up the modern world is, and how better off we were decades ago before things got so complicated. Before conscience escaped mankind and we began treating one another like dogs. The Coen Bros' telling of the tale certainly does McCarthy's story justice. It is bleak and horrifying, and justice remains a silly notion that has no place in the modern world.
