What a moody piece of film. I had to laugh a lot of times but yet, it is really bleak. It has a simpler tone compared to Ariel but yet, it portrays a lot like a dirty laundry type of documentary, displaying for the world to see how basic abuse is and contrasting that with the political images on the TV of Tienanmen and so on.

If you haven't seen this film and you've probably haven't. What the fuck are you waiting for?! It's Abel Ferrara meets Wim Wenders. Still not intrigued? Stick to the multiplexes then jerk-off.

Like Jeanne Dielman with a dark sense of humour. I think I counted about 200 words of dialogue spoken in the entire film. Kaurismaki's characters are pathetic, awkward and sad - and funny.
