this is really good, it's quite suspenseful.the whole self-destructive writer is portrayed very well.

Film noir like never before. Humphrey Bogart as a dont-mess-with-me screenwriter imposes himself on every scene, until he becomes the film itself. Gloria Grahame is the archetypal femme fatale who leaves Bogart in a lonely place after all. The film is built around a murder and its repercussions. A whodunit where you don't actually get to kno whodunit, though Steele is the prime suspect. Classics like these need to be resurrected in the minds of the audience time and again.

I adore this film, I don't why i did not review it earlier but it is a first class film noir showcasing Bogie's best and most vulnerable performance. This was probably because the character's disgust in Hollywood was somewhat autobiographical to Bogart.

Cruel, callous, sexy and tender in turn, In a Lonely Place is a maze of politics of every variety, where the stakes are uncertain and no one can really know anyone else. It's about scar tissue. Well, it's about a murder, but it's also about scar tissue. The two main characters are defined by their past. Dixon Steele was an army commanding officer who killed men in a bloody and brutal war, and seems to yearn to get back to that state of mind, despite living a posh life as a writer in LA. Laurel Grey is a woman who thinks she has escaped from her abusive relationship, but is still defined by it. When the two get entangled, they begin sweet, but quickly the "scars," still raw and inflamed, rub against each other and the film does a smooth and easy job of showing the painful results. Grade A+ Noir.
