A shattering and angry work of socially committed cinema that is one of the most emotionally devastating films of De Palma's entire career

How far does texture go when it comes to accepting certain incidents as "real"? Brian de Palma allegorizes documentary in this fictionalized account of the US soldiers' almost psychopathic brutality in war-torn Mahmoudiya (Irag). If you are opposed to gruesome, disturbing cinema then you are shirking of the responsibility of being world-aware, of experiencing the bestiality of war, and worst of all - the potential to be human. De Palma converges docu-like footage with real-time film stock to show us the cinematic truth behind what's really happening in Iraq, inwardly urging us to take a stand. If brutal can be beautiful, then De Palma's Redacted is hereby crowned "Miss Universe".

I don't care what the hell O'Reilly and his groupies say. This film is too important not to watch. De Palma does a terrific job of portraying the quagmire that Bush has led us into and the fact that there will be no victor in this completely unnecessary conflict.

Great movie. Sure its DePalma's CASUALTIES OF WAR adapted to Iraq but thats part of the point. This is a powerful film and for all its faults (of which, lets be honest, there are many) is still a strong minded and effective film. It's surely far more independent than most of the "independents" out there.
