I can see why it was compared to Casablanca, it seems like some of the lines were taken and change slightly or re-arranged to fit this movie. So yes, it did remind me a little bit of Casablanca just set in Cuba.

"I know a butterfly can flutter its wings over a flower in China and cause a hurricane in the Caribbean. I believe it. They can even calculate the odds. It just isn't likely... and it takes so long." This scene with Redford and Olin is unforgettable and truly amazing.

An interesting setting for this love story which helps greatly as the plot does feel like it needs a jump start here and there.

I've seen this film several times, and it is always a pleasure. My five star rating may seem a bit excessive, but I linke films that engross me in a historical events against the backdrop of the personal vicissitudes of its characters (and vice-versa). Another element in its favor is the beautiful Elgar like score, which no doubt enhances the ideas and feelings of the movie for people who like music as much as I do.
