Sure, it's schmaltzy. But it's sweet. One of those feelgood movies of the 40's. Known mostly for the song "Swinging on a Star"

One of those movies that leaves you feeling good about life. I just love everything Bing does and this movie was truly his. The lady character was pretty boring but Fitzgerald nailed the grizzly veteren attitude. Decent movie and great when you're in a good mood.

The Oscars must have been generous that year to give this Best Picture over Double Indemnity. Sure, it's a heartwarming, uplifting movie, but too sweet and perfect that I lost my appetite. There wasn't any major conflict happening in this movie. The story was pretty much static; I didn't feel the ups and downs of this film...just bland in general (although it started out well). One good thing about this is Bing Crosby. His acting was subtle, but he punches you in the heart like a Jimmy Stewart.

"Swinging on a Star", and many other songs sung by Father Bing Crosby the King of American crooners, great songs, great acting and all round great film. Academy Award winning film for Best Picture.
